Epidemic in General Obesity

Obesity is increasing all over the world at an alarming rate.  There are more overweight people in the United States than people of normal weight, and of the overweight people about half of them are considered to be obese, according to their Body Mass Index measurements.

Our children are bearing the brunt of the epidemic, as they are being raised to become overweight and eventually obese adults. People of all ages, genders and ethnic groups are becoming more and more overweight and obese.

The reason for the increase of weight is over consumption of food, and especially unhealthy, fattening food, and under expenditure of energy, or exercise.

 The western culture has regressed to such an extent that we have become unhealthy and fat by the way we eat and live. We lead sedentary lives by doing office jobs instead of physical labor, as our forefathers used to do. Instead of doing something physical after work, we go home and sit in front of the TV all evening, depriving our bodies of the much-needed exercise to maintain a healthy body.

Instead of preparing a healthy home cooked meal comprising of fresh wholesome ingredients, we tend to eat fast foods high in fat, refined starches and sugars, and then we consume sugar laden sodas with it. By eating this way our bodies simply do not get the necessary nutrients. The results are low levels of energy, overweight and disease.

Type two diabetes is directly linked to eating the wrong foods. More and more people are prone to this disease, many of them unaware that they are suffering from it. Diabetes is the seventh highest killer in the United States. Hypertension and cardiovascular diseases are also linked to unhealthy lifestyles and overweight.

Now is the time to take responsibility for your own lifestyle, and to start influencing your children to make healthier food choices. That will only happen once you have changed your own bad habits into good food choices. Find out about good nutrition and what it can do to improve the way you look and feel. Our bodies need to be fed properly in order to function properly. By eliminating the unhealthy fatty and sugary foods from your diet, you will start to loose weight, as long as you replace them with fresh fruit and vegetables, lean proteins and wholegrain cereals, and start to introduce some sort of exercise plan into your life.
